Shower Thoughts

Is there a particular moment of your day or a specific place where ideas, epiphanies or revelations pop into your mind? For me, these thought treasures develop either in the car (without the kids) but more often in the shower. They don't happen all the time but when they do they're like these little unexpected gifts.

So last night I did my usual routine of hopping into the shower after putting the kids down. Midway through my shower I got this image of a poster I designed for Matty almost 5 years ago. On the poster was the verse in 1 Timothy 4:12 which I used to pray over Matty. It's framed and still hanging in his room currently. (See below for image)

I thought it was so random how that image and verse popped into my mind but there was a part of me that felt like I shouldn't dismiss this so I decided go let myself go deeper. I was led to thinking about our younger generation, the Gen Z-ers. How it may seem that they have so much going against them especially with our current climate but at the same time these challenges sets up a platform for them to rise to the occasion. Especially for young believers to speak BOLDLY, to speak LOVE, to speak in TRUTH not because they're given a voice therefore they should feel entitled to word vomit whatever's on their mind but it is fueled by their personal relationship with a living God whom they have found HOPE in the midst of adversity and can share that hope, that light with those around them.

There is so much HOPE in our youth and even in our older generation. Let's not look down on this generation, give up on them or scoff at them because they're not what they look like or acted like when you were growing up. All the more can we empower them? Can we invest and help raise up our young ones to be atmosphere changers, paradigm shifters, way makers? Not only was this a charge for others but for me as well. This really challenged me to look at my own heart as I'm guilty for my judgmental views on our young generation. At the same token, I'm thankful for this reminder that when we grow deeper in our relationship with the Lord that His love and light will naturally overflow to others. Because light can't be kept hidden- it shines brightest in the dark.

"Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity." - 1 Timothy 4:12

  1. I love this. It is so true. The opposition creates strength of character. I see the younger generation in our church hungry to volunteeer and be buddies for kids with special needs, like my little one. They are changing the world in ways I never thought of when I was younger. I have so much hope for the future when I look at them!
